Standard houses for the discerning
A new breed of standard house, with top-quality architecture, building materials, implementation and interior – that is the philosophy behind the nine standard houses with Unidrain, planned for a site outside Copenhagen:
"Houses for discerning people".
The houses have been designed by the Danish architectural practice Henning Larsen Architects, while the client for the development is the Danish housing company Bülow & Nielsen. Four of the houses have been built 14 km west of the Danish capital, Copenhagen: Two houses have been sold and two are show houses. The remaining five houses will be built as interested buyers become available.

Innovation with quality
Bülow & Nielsen wished to create a new standard house which would represent a complete innovation; consequently, there has not been the slightest compromise in quality anywhere. The interior architects at Bülow & Nielsen chose Unidrain for the bathroom, with other bathroom fittings by Vola, designed by Arne Jacobsen, and sanitary appliances from Villeroy & Boch. See the complete interior list.

"We aimed to upgrade the standard bathroom and make it a bit more luxurious," explain the interior architects at Bülow & Nielsen.

They find that more and more house buyers are demanding Unidrain in new houses – both the 'practical types' who are interested in efficiency, and those who like a little luxury in their lives.

"These days, people like to have large floor tiles in the bathroom, and Unidrain is a practical solution when you need a fall in the floor. What’s more, it looks much better than the traditional grating in the middle of the floor," say the interior architects.

Bathrooms are private suites
The houses have open rooms with large windows, through which daylight streams into the living rooms and bedrooms, as well as the bathrooms, of which there are two – one for the parents and one for the children. For project architect Signe Kongebo of Henning Larsen Architects, an important consideration in the design process has been to turn the bathrooms into private zones for parents and children, respectively – a kind of private suite that they can have to themselves.

"The house's very open spaces and glass facades place special demands on the bathrooms," she explains. "They are designed to be places where they can find peace and quiet and privacy, away from each other.”

Visit and view
The houses, which are available in two models, 160 sq.m. and 174 sq.m., each include a hall, utility room, large living-room, kitchen-dining room with double work islands, master bedroom, two or three other bedrooms, and the two bathrooms. The nearest neighbour to the development is the green, preserved area of Skovlunde Natural Park. The living-rooms and kitchens/family rooms are oriented towards the park, allowing the residents to enjoy a view of the varying outdoor area.

Families have already moved into the two houses sold so far. The two show houses have been furnished with modern Danish and international designer furniture, and are open for viewing every Sunday.
