From crawl space to luxurious and functional bathroom

The bathroom should be able to cope with everyday life, be functional and ooze luxury. Morten from Aarhus and his girlfriend Nanna had exactly this in mind when they started the excavation work for their new bathroom one October day in 2015.

Morten lives in a 1960s house north of Aarhus, with his girlfriend Nanna and their three children. Morten dreamed of a bathroom where he could take off his surfing gear and wetsuit in the garden and go straight into the shower – without going through the house. Nanna also wanted an extra bathroom for their active family.
Both Morten and Nanna were ready to take on the challenge of a new bathroom, so one October day in 2015, Morten and his father started digging out the 50 square metre crawl space under the house.

Earth and darkness turned into luxury and light

The digging work picked up speed and the old crawl space underwent something of a transformation. Where there used to be earth, there is now a luxurious and functional bathroom which meets the family’s requirements and needs.
The bathroom has the ‘wow’ factor – just like luxury hotel bathrooms. Luxurious design elements are included everywhere as a natural part of the architecture. The look is rustic, with large Italian tiles on the walls and floor.

The bathroom was designed in collaboration with the architect Jens Vang, a partner in Gudnitz Krabbe Vang Architecture & Design.  He took Morten and Nanna’s ideas on board throughout the process. Even when they wanted two showers side by side.

“We have a big hot tub outside, we live next to the water where we have a boat moored, I surf, and our two eldest boys are getting better and better at water sports. They are in the water every day, and then they can easily just dive into the bathroom and choose a shower each. They love that,” says Morten.
The at once luxurious and functional bathroom is finished to the highest quality right down to the smallest details. This includes the toilet brush, the toilet roll holders, the soap shelf and the towel rail, all from the Reframe Collection by Unidrain. The Reframe Collection is a range of accessories that add the finishing touches to the family’s new bathroom.
