The unbroken sight line was a central element in our design concept. The building is positioned as an extension of the street and continues out into the sea. When you enter the cold bath house, you look directly out towards the sea through the building and further out towards the horizon. This creates a direct connection to the sea and nature,” says Ulf Svensson, architect at Magasin A Arkitekter.
The architectural vision also makes high demands on both the choice of materials and details.
Holistic impression right down to the smallest detail
The project has focused on ensuring that all elements – including the technical features – contribute to the overall architectural expression. Here linear floor drains from Unidrain play a key role by being discreetly integrated into the floor without breaking the overall visual impression.
“We attach great importance to the overall impression of our projects – also in the small details. Aesthetics and design are important factors for us, so it was natural to look at Unidrain and their range. We wanted to avoid traditional plastic drains that visually break the whole. The linear drains merge with the environment and support the calm and well-conceived atmosphere we wanted to create,” says Ulf Svensson.
The solution is designed for use in moisture-exposed environments where high demands are made on both function and durability.
Architecture that lasts – and gets noticed
As the cold bath house is located in a vulnerable environment, the choice of materials has been an essential part of the project. The building rests on heavy cast columns that can withstand both storms and really cold winters. The building consists of two elongated building structures with changing rooms and saunas overlooking the Sound and a centrally located relaxation area.
“As an architect, there is almost always something that annoys you when a project has been completed. But in this case we’re very satisfied. Most of it has become as we imagined, with full support from the City of Landskrona and Treano Bygg as a committed contractor. It has been a very enjoyable project to work on.” concludes Ulf Svensson.
