Unidrain makes every effort to be as open as possible about the environmental footprint of our products. This makes it easier for our customers and the construction industry to make the best and most sustainable choices. That’s why we’re delighted to introduce Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for four of our drainage systems:
This applies to
EPDs allow us to document the environmental impact of products throughout their entire lifecycle – from raw material extraction, production, transportation, installation and all the way to the final stage, disposal.
– The construction industry is moving towards greater transparency and sustainability, and, as a manufacturer, we have a responsibility to provide documentation to help clients and architects make informed choices. EPDs are an important step on that journey, says Product Manager Jacob Honoré.
What is an EPD?
An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is a certificate that provides a detailed calculation of a product’s environmental impact. It is verified by an independent third party and based on international standards (ISO 14025 and EN 15804). It makes it possible to compare environmental data across different products and manufacturers in the construction industry.
An EPD shows the environmental impact at different stages of a product’s life cycle:

– Creating EPDs produces a clear picture of our products’ environmental footprint. This means we can not only document our impact but also actively use the data to improve our processes and reduce our carbon footprint, explains Jacob Honoré.
EPDs are important in the construction industry
The construction industry has become increasingly demanding when it comes to sustainability and documentation of environmental impact. In Denmark, the Building Regulations (BR18) require all new buildings to have their total carbon footprint calculated. This development will generally also be seen throughout the EU as the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) regarding the energy consumption of buildings is implemented in the national legislation of the Member States.
EPDs play a crucial role because the footprint of construction products will have to be documented going forward, and an EPD will give any interested parties access to reliable environmental data on our products.
Documented and verified
Our EPDs are prepared by Carbonzero AB, a leader in life cycle assessment and environmental product declarations. The EPDs are verified by an independent third party and published in The International EPD System in January 2025.
