Unidrain commended at this year’s Red Dot Design Award

“We are delighted to receive this recognition from Red Dot. We developed MatLine because we could see that there was a gap for an intelligent design to handle the dirt and water that we drag into the home. Red Dot confirms that our idea was right,” says design and development manager Kenneth Waaben.

MatLine is designed in the same minimalist style as Unidrain’s other prize-winning products. Under the mat is a drain which collects the water while tough nylon brushes clean the dirt off the soles of the feet. The result is fewer dirty footprints in the entrance hall and the rest of the house.

“The idea behind MatLine is basically to make it easier to keep the home clean while also creating a design that harmonises with the rest of the decor. We tried to achieve a high degree of flexibility in the solution; for example, MatLine can be height-adjusted during installation, so the system is always level with the surrounding floor,” explains Kenneth Waaben.

The Red Dot Design Award is not the first prize MatLine has received. Earlier this year, MatLine won the international IF Award from World Design Guide.

“Of course the prizes are a nice present to Unidrain but also to Danish design in general. Danish designers have a reputation for delivering designs that are both stylish and functional, so our solutions get noticed when they go out into the world,” concludes Kenneth Waaben.
