The small but perfectly formed bathrooms presented here are set in a new architect-designed summerhouse on the Danish west coast. For an in-depth look at the rest of the house, which is arranged around a charming conservatory, read more here.
Designed by the Njordrum studio, the 120-square-metre timber holiday home has two compact bathrooms: one for the parents and one for the teenagers. With just 3.3 and 3.5 square metres of floor space available, turning these tiny spaces into private sanctuaries called for carefully considered details and a firm focus on functionality.

The family decided to design their own bathrooms, choosing Unidrain’s linear drains and accessories to complete the spaces. Architect Lars Vejen, who led the project, explains: ‘These bathrooms are very compact, which makes it even more important to ensure that every element supports their functionality – and all interior details make the room seem and feel more spacious. In small rooms, it is crucial to ensure that the things in it are perfect. And Unidrain’s products are exactly that. The drain creates a sense of visual calm, while the subtle design makes the room seem longer.’
In one bathroom, black accents frame the clean geometry; in the other, brushed steel creates a cool, contemporary feel. In both, a linear drain echoes the clean lines of the tiles and leaves them uninterrupted – a small but essential contribution to the overall look.

‘It’s important to choose products that support the architecture,’ adds Vejen. ‘Unidrain’s pure, understated aesthetic fits beautifully within the context. I might point to another Danish design icon and say that they’re the Vola of drains – all about understated luxury and timeless design. The trained eye can immediately see the difference.’
