Three international design awards for our new pedal bin!

Can a pedal bin be a design object? Absolutely. Our new pedal bin has just won not one, not two, but three prestigious design awards: the iF Design Award, German Design Award and Red Dot Design Award.

The three judging panels were all enthusiastic about the pedal bin’s form and function, and the bin stood out among hundreds of products by design brands and designers from all around the world.

The panel citations state that the pedal bin won for “Idea, form, function, differentiation and impact” (iF Design Award), for “Excellent design” in the Bath & Wellness category (German Design Award) and for “Excellent quality and outstanding design” in the Product Design 2024 category (Red Dot Design Award).

We’re delighted that our new pedal bin is receiving recognition with these three design awards. When we develop new products for the Reframe range, the product has to stand out and preferably solve everyday problems in a more elegant way than other products on the market. These awards strongly suggest that we have succeeded once again, enthuses Product Manager Jacob Honoré.

The Unidrain design team elaborates on his comment:

The bin is clearly minimalist when you look at it, but underneath the neat exterior are innovative details and design solutions that take on some of the practical challenges in everyday life. For example, one of the typical complaints about pedal bins is that the lid hits the wall when you operate them. Here, the lid mechanism makes sure it stops before it hits the wall. It also has a soft open/close function that makes it very quiet and a pleasure to use. And while on the subject of stepping on the pedal, the robust design and non-slip rubber ring on the base ensure the stability of the bin at all times. This one doesn’t move around!

– Changing the bin liner is another area where we strove to resolve familiar problems. We probably all know the hassle of getting the liner properly in place, and then you end up with it being wrapped around the upper edge – which will spoil the look of even the prettiest bin! In the Reframe version, replacing the bin liner is super-quick, and the removable container has a specially developed double-sided tape to keep the bin liner taut and smooth. It also prevents the liner from sliding down and makes it invisible from the outside. That way, you can fully appreciate the fact that the bin has clean, unbroken lines all the way around – which, incidentally, not only looks good but also makes the bin easy to clean.

The award-winning pedal bin matches the other products of the Reframe Collection (soap dispenser, shelves, shower wiper, towel bar, hooks, toilet roll holder and toilet brush) and is available in the same five finishes: Brass, Copper, Black (PVD-treated), or Brushed or Polished Stainless Steel.

THE TAKEAWAY
The Reframe pedal bin perfectly encapsulates the ‘49% design, 51% technology’ mantra. It resolves real-life problems while achieving a clean, timeless look. And as a result, it has won three major design awards.
